The short version
We collect only what the app needs to work. We don’t sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train third-party AI. You can delete your data at any time.
MiserSavings Inc. (“mi$er,” “Miser,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) builds a mobile savings app that helps you move small, skipped purchases from your linked checking account into your own savings account. Miser never holds your money — your funds stay in your own bank accounts at all times. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Miser, you agree to the practices described below. Version 2.1.
We collect only what the app needs to work: your email address (to sign you in), a display name you choose, your savings goals (name, target amount, timeline, and category), the skips you log (amount, category, and optional note), and basic device info (model, OS version, app version). Phone number is optional — we only collect it if you add it from Settings for account recovery or SMS alerts. We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or health data.
For California and other state-privacy purposes, here is how what we collect maps to standard categories.
Identifiers — email, name, optional phone — collected from you, used to operate your account, shared with Supabase (database) and Resend (email).
Customer records / financial information — bank-linking tokens, ACH activity, SSN last 4 (for KYC) — collected from you and from our banking-infrastructure partner, used to verify identity and move money. The specific partner is currently being selected (selection is pending); the chosen provider will be named in-app at the time of account opening and listed here. Miser does not hold or custody your funds — money moves between your own checking and savings accounts.
Commercial information — your savings goal category (for example, “travel,” “emergency fund,” or “wedding”) — collected from you, used to personalize the app and the AI coach, and — only if you opt in to partner offers — disclosed to vetted partner brands so they can match relevant offers to you. The goal category is the only data point ever disclosed to a partner; your name, email, balance, skip log, bank data, and free-text goal name are not.
Sensitive personal information — habit-quit category, if you provided one (Quit Companion mode) — collected from you with explicit consent, used only to personalize the coach, never shared with partners or used for any direct-marketing purpose.
Internet / network activity — basic device info (model, OS, app version) — collected automatically, used for diagnostics.
We do not collect biometric data, geolocation, or contents of communications outside Miser. We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration, and we do not share any of it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The goal-category disclosure described above is a first-party direct-marketing arrangement and is opt-in only; you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → Communications → Partner offers, which immediately stops future disclosures (see §5 for limits on recall).
We do not read your SMS messages, your contacts, your photos, your location, or any content outside of Miser. When you choose to link a bank account to Miser Savings, the linking is handled by a regulated banking-infrastructure partner (selection currently pending; the chosen provider will be named in-app at the time of bank linking). That partner accesses only the account number, balance, and transaction history of the account you explicitly approve. You can disconnect at any time from Settings.
Your data is used to run the app: keep your Miser Savings balance accurate, calculate your streak, generate AI coach messages from your own activity (see §7 for what we send to Anthropic, our AI provider), and notify you about reminders and milestones you’ve opted into. We may use your savings goals internally to personalize the app. If you opt in to partner offers (Settings → Communications → Partner offers), we may also (a) send you marketing emails tailored to your goal categories and (b) disclose your goal category — for example, “travel” or “emergency fund” — to vetted partner brands so they can match relevant offers to you. We never disclose your name, email, balance, skips, free-text notes, or bank data to partners. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your data to train third-party AI models. Your skips stay private to you — groups only see the aggregate amount members contribute to a shared goal, never individual categories or notes. The only data point ever disclosed to a third-party brand is your savings goal category, and only if you have opted in to partner offers under §5. Partner brands are contractually limited to using that goal category to match an offer to you; they do not receive your name, email, balance, skips, free-text goal name, or bank data, and they may not re-sell or further share it.
Transactional emails (deposit confirmations, withdrawal alerts, security notices) are required and cannot be turned off while your account is active. Partner offers are opt-in only. When you opt in we may (a) send you marketing emails tailored to your goal categories and (b) disclose your goal category to vetted partner brands so they can match relevant offers. You can opt in at signup or in Settings → Communications → Partner offers, and you can opt out anytime in Settings or by clicking unsubscribe in any marketing email. Opting out stops all future marketing emails and stops all future goal-category disclosures to partners; any disclosure already made to a partner before you opted out cannot be recalled from that partner’s systems, though they remain bound by the contractual use-limits above. Marketing SMS is a separate opt-in. We do not send marketing SMS without your explicit consent, even if you have a phone number on file for account recovery.
Your account and skip data are stored in Supabase (Postgres) in US-region data centres. Authentication tokens are stored encrypted on your device via iOS Keychain / Android Keystore. We use TLS for all data in transit. We work with the following sub-processors: Supabase (database hosting, US), Resend (transactional email delivery), Anthropic (AI coach inference — see §7 for what is sent and what is not), and Sentry (crash and error reporting — see §8). Bank linking, identity verification (KYC), and ACH transit will be provided by a regulated banking-infrastructure partner; provider selection is currently pending, and the chosen partner will be added to this list and named in-app at the time of account opening. We will notify you at least 14 days in advance (per §13) before any new sub-processor that handles funds or personal data is added. Partner brands that receive a goal category under §3 act as independent controllers for any interaction you choose to have with them after tapping an offer; they are not sub-processors of Miser.
The AI coach is powered by Anthropic. Each coach message is generated by sending the following to Anthropic, and nothing else:
(a) Activity summary — your display name, current streak, total saved, number of skips logged, the list of your active savings goals (name, target amount, category, current progress) and group goals you participate in, plus a 30-day skip-pattern digest computed on our server from your skip log (for example, “biggest leak this month: coffee”). If you use Quit Companion mode, we also send the habit you are quitting, days clean, and the cost-per-unit you set during onboarding.
(b) Chat context — when you ask the coach a question in chat mode, your question text is sent. To let the coach resolve references like “that” or “what about it,” we also send up to the last 6 messages of the current chat. This recent-turns buffer is held only for the active chat and is not persisted to Anthropic.
(c) Coach memory — Miser stores a small set of plain-language facts the coach has learned about you from your messages (for example, “is saving for a wedding in October” or “prefers concrete numbers”). These facts are stored in our own Supabase database (table: coach_memory) and a short digest is included in the system prompt on each coach call so the coach stays consistent across sessions. Each stored fact includes a verbatim quote from the conversation it was inferred from, and you can view, edit, or clear any of it — including a one-tap clear-everything — in Profile → What the Coach knows.
We do not send Anthropic: your email address, the free-text note attached to any individual skip, your bank account number, ACH routing details, SSN or other KYC information, your IP address, or any data not described above. Anthropic processes the request to generate the message; per our data-processing arrangement, your conversation content is not used to train Anthropic’s underlying models. To prevent abuse and keep costs bounded, coach usage is rate-limited per user (currently 30 chat messages and 200 passive nudges per day).
Miser app. The Miser app does not use cookies, advertising IDs, or third-party tracking SDKs. We do not run product analytics inside the app. We use Sentry for crash reporting to help us diagnose and fix bugs. Sentry captures error stack traces and device context; it does not receive your financial data or personally identifiable information beyond an anonymised session ID.
misersavings.com (marketing website). Our marketing website uses two analytics tools: Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for aggregate traffic measurement, and Microsoft Clarity for behavioral analytics including session recordings and heatmaps. Clarity records how visitors navigate and interact with the site so we can understand where people get stuck and improve the experience. All form fields — including your name and email address on our waitlist form — are masked and are never captured in recordings. Clarity may set cookies and process your IP address to infer country. You can opt out of session recording by enabling the “Do Not Track” signal in your browser, or by using a content-blocking browser extension. For details on how Microsoft handles Clarity data, see Microsoft’s Privacy Statement. For GA4, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
You can: view your data (it’s all in the app), correct your display name (Settings → Edit), view / edit / clear what the AI coach knows about you (Profile → What the Coach knows), opt out of partner offers and partner goal-category disclosures (Settings → Communications → Partner offers), or delete your account and all associated data. To delete: open the app and tap Settings → Delete my account. We remove your personal data within 30 days. If you can’t access the app, email [email protected].
Miser is not intended for children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a minor has created an account, please email [email protected] and we will remove it.
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. We may retain aggregated, de-identified analytics indefinitely — this data cannot be used to identify you. Aggregated data is de-identified in line with the CPRA standard (Cal. Civil Code §1798.140(h)) — we don’t attempt to re-identify and have technical safeguards against doing so.
If you live in California, you have the right under the California Consumer Privacy Act / CPRA to: know what personal information we collect about you and how we use it; delete your personal information; correct inaccurate information; opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information; limit the use of sensitive personal information (such as your habit-quit category, if you provided one); and not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We’ll respond within 45 days.
Miser does not sell your personal information for monetary consideration and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The one disclosure that may resemble “sharing” under CPRA is the goal-category disclosure to partner brands described in §3 — this is opt-in only and is used solely for direct marketing back to you. You can opt out at any time via Settings → Communications → Partner offers. If you would prefer to submit the opt-out in writing instead, email [email protected] with “Do Not Share — Partner offers” in the subject line and we will action the request within 15 business days as required by CPRA.
If you live in Texas, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal data; to opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of your personal data (Miser does not engage in either); and to appeal a denied request. Email [email protected] to exercise these rights or to appeal. We’ll respond within applicable statutory deadlines (45 days in most states).
If we discover a security incident that affects your data, we will notify you without undue delay. We follow industry-standard practices for access control, encryption, and vulnerability monitoring.
If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we will notify you in-app at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated policy.
Questions about privacy, data requests, or this policy? Email [email protected]. We respond within 24 hours on business days (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm PT).
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about how we collect, use, share, or protect your personal information is subject to the dispute-resolution provisions of our Terms of Service (§16), which require individual binding arbitration before the American Arbitration Association seated in Travis County, Texas, and include class-action and jury-trial waivers. You have a 30-day right to opt out of arbitration as described in the Terms of Service. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable statutory right you have under CPRA, GDPR, or another applicable privacy law to bring a complaint to a supervisory authority.
